In Two Parts - Handbuilding Workshop at Guaranteed Plants
Class will take place on Saturday, February 22nd from 11:00 to 12:30 PM @ Guaranteed Plants & Florist in Atlantic Highlands. In this workshop, we’ll explore asymmetrical and complimentary forms that come together in unique ways. Attendees can choose between two making paths -
I. Two planters that fit together as one
II. One large planter, using the entirety of the ball of clay, that fits with a partner’s pot
Workshop fee covers all materials and two firings. You’ll receive
In-person demonstration of how to form your planter
Considerations for successful form + function
3 lbs of clay
Needle tool, sponge, slip, and additional tools to use throughout the duration of class
Your piece processed, fired, and glazed in white gloss.
In this workshop, we’ll create one or two planters, complete with drainage holes.
I’ll begin by giving a demonstration of the process - pinching the base, accentuating profile with the coil method, and finally I’ll wrap up with some unconventional building methods that will help you create a visually interesting homes for plant friends.
Build possibilities are open concept- as these workshops have been rooted in self-expression since their inception in 2022. This is your time to create without boundaries or judgement. If you’d like to stray a little from the original concept you are more than welcome to. We can discuss how to execute your ideas the morning of the workshop!
Pieces may not exceed 4 inches tall in height. Ages 15-up
Turnaround time for student work is 3-4 weeks minimum. Pieces are to be picked up at the location of the workshop once finished. Due to the nature of clay, cracks may appear on your piece if there was not enough compression or cross-hatching applied. Tickets are non-refundable, but always transferrable.
